Dear Christian Woman: Cover Your Breasts

You know the kind of woman I’m talking about. She names Jesus Christ as her Savior, has a Christian husband, has children, goes to church….maybe even sings in the choir. She seems confident in her knowledge of her faith, volunteers for different ministries……yet there’s that glaring incongruence. She has no problem with her breasts hanging out all over social media (no, she’s not breastfeeding, but rather wearing low cut tops), will show up at church in a mini-skirt and wear a bikini. It’s enough to make your brain do a back flip. There’s absolutely NO WAY she doesn’t know exactly what she’s doing. I’ve seen enough and I’m here to call it out.

Romans 14:13…..that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.

Yes, ladies it’s clear from scripture that we are not to cause a brother to stumble by our dress. When you dress provactatively, you sin and the Lord is displeased! Don’t be surprised if the other women at church have a problem with you or even pull you aside to rebuke you.

1 Tim 2:9 In like manner, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel….

There are clear commands from scripture about modest dress. It’s not a matter of what you as a woman are convicted about personally. Many women make that mistake. A man can readily tell you what type of dress is sensual. That’s what you need to avoid. And, please don’t use the excuse that you didn’t know. That only works once. I have found that when men know they can speak openly and honestly, they will readily tell you what is inappropriate. Likewise, even if your church doesn’t have any older women to teach you, there are now several teachers of biblical womanhood online. Seek them out.

Proverbs 11:22. As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.

Ladies, immodest dress is a form of attention seeking behavior that is designed to control and manipulate men. It’s looking and acting like the world and it can damage your testimony. You are here on this earth to do the will of God. You are here to do battle against Satan and be an ambassador for Jesus Christ. How on earth can you go out to soul-win or invite new Christians to your home or teach children in Sunday school? You can’t. You have zero credibility when all you do is appeal to the flesh.

Think I’m exaggerating? Take a look around your own church, especially at the younger women. Listen to what preachers like Paul Washer say. He admits he has to pray before preaching that no woman will be dressed sensuously in his line of vision when he’s trying to share what God has placed on his heart . He wouldn’t have to do that if it wasn’t a regular problem. Lastly, please remember also that whatever we participate in, we drag the Holy Spirit through with us.

1 Cor 6:19 What? Know ye not that your body is a temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
